Shell

I'm in a shell no one can touch
It's warm and soft in here
Protected from the wind and rain
Nor glee or grief my comfort taint

I'm in a shell close to the world
It's dark and silent here
No bright lights blind my fresh wide eyes
I'm undistracted by worldly lies

Yes it's wonderful to be in a shell
I once was out in the world myself
It bit me hard. I must've came too quick
Way too raw and it made me sick

So I withdrew within an outer shell
Withdrew to places I knew well
Where I was at peace, whole, safe and secure
Where the world could hurt me no more

And though it's sad to not be there
Amongst friends and lovers, to laugh and share
No help for it, it had to be
Its pain outweights its glee

No I will be alright in my little world
Content and safe in potential
Out of Failure's lunging grasp
Safe and sound in all I trust
